REVIEW

So to start, if you a looking for a cookbook with dishes from the actual games, like the potato mochi of Hisui, poképuffs of Kalos or malasadas of Alola, this is NOT the book for you. There IS one curry recipe under the Galar section, but that's it. The dishes in this book are INSPIRED by the Pokémon found in different regions of the Pokémon World. If that doesn't deter you from getting the book, keep reading to take a deeper dive; The book is sorted by region. Each region features recipes based on 6 different Pokémon, EXCEPT Kanto, which only has 5 Pokémon represented. I think it because there is a series of Pokéball Poke bowl recipes before getting into the different regions. This cookbook is very vegetarian friendly, as only 3 dishes in the book are not vegetarian. The author also has some notes on how to make dishes dairy-free and gluten-free if needed. There is also a very nice ingredient guide at the beginning of the book, explaining some of the more unique ingredients in this book. There are some specialty ingredients that cannot be easily found at a grocery store required for some of the recipes, so do keep this in mind. That being said, a lot of these items can be found at an Asian market or be purchased online. There are 50 main recipes in this book; a couple of them have multiple variations. About 40% of them are savory, so the book leans more towards the sweet side. There are several drink recipes in the book as well, from smoothies to juices and teas. Each recipe in the book has a difficulty rating. The most complicated recipe in this book is the custard bao to give you an idea of the complexity of the recipes. The book also inclused recipes for things like ramen, flan, crêpes and onigiri, so it takes it's recipe inspiration from different parts of the globe. I don't have children yet, so I can NOT speak to how well a child could make these dishes on their own. I also can not speak to how many of these dishes a child may like; it definitely depends on how picky they are. Each recipe has an at least 1 accompanying photo of how the dish should look. There is also crisp art of each of the Pokémon featured. The font used in Sans-serif, making it clear to read; though it gets small at times, it's still legible, at least to me. The instructions are easy to follow along to. For those who use metric, this book features both metric along side the imperial measurements. And how does it all taste? Well, I've only tried a couple recipes so far, but both were tasty! Overall, I think this is book was put together very well and would make a great gift for a Pokémon fan who is also a foodie!
